About timo

Timo Meier was born on October 8, 1996 in Herisau, Switzerland. From his early childhood, ice hockey was his great passion. Learning to play the game at nearby SC Herisau, his unique skills quickly began to shine. Via EHC Pikes Oberthurgau, a renowned talent mill, Timo joined the SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers in 2012 and then ventured to North America in 2013, joining the Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
From there, Timo’s development accelerated during his second season for the Mooseheads, in which he scored 90 points and caught the eye of NHL scouts, which led to him being selected 9th overall in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft by the San Jose Sharks. In July of 2019, coming of a remarkable 81-point season (his 66 regular season points are a Swiss NHL record), Timo signed a new four-year contract to remain in San Jose.
In addition, Timo is a key member of the Swiss national team and was part of the 2018 Swiss squad that earned a silver medal at the IIHF world championship in Denmark.

Whether in his early years as a junior or now in his days as a marquee NHL player – he simply strives for the very best. «If you want it bad enough, you’ll find a way» is a Swiss idiom the power forward lives by. A team first player at heart, his desire and motivation to perform and outwork others are second to none.

One of Timo’s greatest strengths is his irrepressible desire to get better – particularly when things are going well. To him, ambition is as important as consistency, ability and adaptability. Both physical and fast, the Swiss is a power forward to be reckoned with and possesses the ability to impact the game in a number of different ways. His effort is consistently high.

The San Jose Sharks have established themselves as one of the NHL’s premiere organizations in recent years. In the 2018/19 season, they reached the Western Conference finals and have made the playoffs in all three of Timo’s seasons with the team. Naturally, Timo has been a key reason for the team’s success, serving as an offensive catalyst in 2018/2019 with 35 goals and 46 assists. The former top 10 draft choice made his NHL debut on December 16, 2016 in a game vs. the Montreal Canadiens, scoring his first career goal with his very first shot at the NHL level.

Swiss National Team

Timo Meier made his debut for the Swiss national ice hockey team in 2018. After an early round playoff exit with the Sharks, Timo joined the Swiss at the IIHF world championship in Denmark, contributing seven points (2 goals and 5 assists) en route to a 2nd place finish. A national team regular throughout his junior career, he also proudly represented Switzerland as a member of the Swiss’ U-16 and U-20 squads.
